Choice C: So far, is this a novel about race? Class? Gender? Coming of Age? Place? Select and defend your answer.
So far in TKAM, I think the book focuses on Race more then anything else. I think the fact that the town of Maycomb had to pick a side from a black man, or a white women really proved the book to be about race. Even though the jury knew Tom was innocent by the evidence given, they still stuck with the white man. I think this plays a big part in the book, showing that no matter what happens, the town of Maycomb won't side with any African Americans. I think also the fact that the main character's maid is an African American women, really puts the racism on spot. Overall, I think this book was made to teach people about what went on back in the day. And how bad it was. And also about the change thats happened since then. Its unbelievable.

TKAM Journal #6
B
- I consider myself to have a lot in common with Jem & Scout both. Every Summer, I visit my cousins (who also live in Alabama.) When I'm there, we always find something to do and it doesn't ever get boring. Which is a lot like the scenerio in TKAM. Every summer, when Dill come to town, the three kids find something fun to do no matter what. Usually they're playing various games involving Neighbors or walking around the neighborhood & walking to town.
When I was younger, I usually had a lot more fun and didn't ever get bored, like in TKAM. Now that I'm older, I get bored a lot easier. And it seems the older Jem & Scout get, the less fun they have. I wish I could go back to being a kid. Life seemed a lot more fun.

TKAM Journal #3
Chapters 8 - 9
Perspective of Miss Maudie
Dear Journal,
Today was a very scary day. My house was burnt down! Although it was my house, I woulda done it myself sooner or later. But the fire put me through so much tyranny. I was so frightened. Thank god, the fire fighters saved a lot of my furnature. It would have been tormenting without it. But that malignant fire got to my azlaeas! Thats what really got me quibbling. But before the fire started, it began to snow! Those lovely kids, Scout & Jem made me a snow-maudie! It was quite realistic. Sunhat & everything. That got burned down too though. I'm just happy I'm alive, as-well as my many neighbors. Well I'm off to bed.
G'night!
Sincerely,
Miss Maudia

TKAM Journal #2
TKAM
Chapters 4 - 7
Perspective of Jem
Dear Journal,
Today was an interesting day. Dill finally came today. I'm pretty excited. Its also the beginning of Summer! Im even more excited for that. No dumb school, all fun. Now that Dill is here, I can play more with him in the treehouse, without lil ol' Scout to be a little girl about things. Today, us three played Sam & Tom & Dick. That got boring quickly so we played Boo Radley. Fun game, y'know? But unfortnately Atticus came and ruined it all. Scout was being a little girl anyways.
Well I'm off to bed for tonight! G'night.
Sincerely, Jem

TKAM Journal #1
TKAM Journal #1
Chapters 1 - 3
Perspective of Ms. Caroline
Dear Journal,
Today was an easy but stressful day of teaching. I met my new class of 1st graders. One being Jean Louis, also known as "Scout". She's a sweet little girl, but also needs to know when to keep her mouth shut. She taught me a little about a student, which got her in trouble. So I was forced to whip her in the hand. I'm sure that was intimidating for her. Although she deserved it, I feel ashamed. I also dislike whipping my students. Maybe I'll make a compromise with my students, instead of abusing them like that. But it irked me. Maybe this time, it will teach Scout to keep quiet while class is in session. Even if she is only in 1st grade. Well, I'm off to bed.
Sincerely,
Ms. Caroline

Reading Response Questions #1
- 1 - What does this book remind you of your own life?
I really like the ocean & the animals in it. And since the book has to do with a whale and other sea creatures, I feel it reminds me a lot of my own life.
- 2 - Do you think you would read another book by this author? Why or why not?
The author has another book related to whales. Whales are one of my favorite animal, so I think I'd be interested in reading it.
